Save Space While Adding Power with Server Technology's New 'HDOT'
Server Technology (News - Alert), a leading company producing high-quality rack mount power distribution and monitoring solutions that also help manage power capacity, has done it again with its newest offering known as “HDOT” – a High Density Technology Outlet.
According to the company, HDOT drastically reduces the footprint of a PDU while retaining up to 42 C13 outlets in a 1U device. Simply put, this means more power in less space, a critical concern for today’s IT professionals.
“High power densities and reduced cabinet space require new and innovative products like Server Technology’s own patented outlet technology that provides industry standard C13 and C19 outlets in a drastically reduced footprint,” the company said in a release.
“You’ve never seen anything like this before in a PDU. As the name implies, we’ve designed our own unique style of IEC (News - Alert) standard C13 and C19 which allows us to build our PDU’s with the maximum possible outlet density,” said Travis Irons, director of engineering at Server Technology. “There is a significant trend in data centers for more outlets in a smaller space, driven by data centers being short on real estate, growing rack heights, and a proliferation of 1U equipment. This was the motivation behind the HDOT outlet. Our customers needed something that had more outlets per PDU in the smallest form factor. We delivered.”
It’s well known in the industry that data center floor space is the most expensive space executives can buy. IT managers are at a loss trying to squeeze more units into a space than can fit. So, outlets need to be condensed and reduced to allow for more efficient storage; that’s what the HDOT does. The unit reduces the amount of clutter since it has been slimmed and stripped of extra material, designed to maximize space while still delivering what it promises.
Further, HDOT is built with such a narrow structure that two PDUs can be placed next to each other creating an increased amount of space, allowing air to move throughout the rack. Increasing this airflow reduces the need to leverage cooling resources, extending the life of the equipment.
The HDOT technology is available in Metered and Smart PDUs.
“With six different outlet modules, you’ll be able to mix and match where you want them in your PDU,” Irons said. “This will allow customers to put the right type of outlet directly adjacent to the equipment.”
