Can Your PDU Pivot?
According to IDC research, there are more than 2.94 million data centers in use with 611.4 million square feet of floor space. As this little trend called big data continues to grow, reliance on data centers is also increasing. At these data centers, you’ll more than likely have too many devices to plug them all directly into your power supply. Power Distribution Units (PDUs) are power strips used to power servers and telecommunications equipment and distribute your site’s power to each device by turning power inputs into many power outputs.
Using this type of device helps to ensure that all essential equipment receives a sufficient supply of power even if the main power source is temporarily not available. Server Technology (News - Alert), a provider of data center power management and monitoring solutions, offers hundreds of cabinet PDUs, including its basic, metered, smart and switched PDUs. Recently, it introduced its PDU Power Pivot, a new data center feature with a 90-degree rotatable power cord, making it the ultimate PDU for multiple racks and facilities.
The Switched STV-4102 combines remote configuration and management with power distribution and environmental monitoring. Reboot a single or dual-power server with one command. Receive SNMP-based alerts and e-mail alerts when power or environmental conditions exceed thresholds. Assign user specific access rights to designated outlets or groups.
The Power Pivot features the PDU Power Pivot input cord, 30 (basic, metered, smart) or 24 (switched) outlet configurations, single phase inputs, high native retention outlets, locking receptacles accept side-lock plugs on all PDU Power Pivot products and top-lock (aka APC (News - Alert)) plugs on the switched product, auto-flip LED (all but basic), reversible sequencing (switched - via FW), two temperature/humidity inputs on both the master and link units for a total of four and 50° C rating.
The PDU Power Pivot will be offered initially in four new products: three new 30-outlet PDUs in the basic, metered and smart PDU categories and one 24-outlet switched PDU, offering on, off and reboot capabilities.
