New Jersey's Primary Data Center Power Failure Affected Several State Agency Websites
Last week in New Jersey, the websites of several state agencies, including the Labor Department, were knocked offline due to power loss at a data center. This disrupted access to related state services also caused motor vehicle offices across the state to close early.
According to Michale Drewniak, a spokesperson for Governor Chris Christie, the power failure occurred at New Jersey's Primary data center operated by the New Jersey Office of Information Technology at 2 p.m. on January 24th, shutting down most of the state's network, which caused “disruptions across many state departments and agencies frequently used by the public.”
The official statement released by the New Jersey state Treasury Department added that, “The source of the outage has been identified and is now being addressed by the staff and contractors of the State Office of Information Technology, who will work continuously until the problems are addressed.”
All affected Web sites were returned to service as of about 8 p.m. that same day and have continued to operate without interruption since.
