Report Explores DCIMS Ability to Manage Data Center Power
By Rajani Baburajan TMCnet Contributor
TechNavio, which provides data center market research, has published a report on the Global Data Center Infrastructure Management Software Market 2010-2014 that discusses significant trends in the market for the large enterprises, SMEs, and government sectors.
The report highlights the importance of implementation of Data Center Infrastructure Management Solutions (DCIMS). With DCIMS, organizations are able to better manage data center power usage so as to comply with various rules and regulations. DCIMS also enables users to focus more on their core activities rather than investing time and resources in managing their own network infrastructure.
“Maintenance of data center network infrastructure is a major challenge for many organizations,” said an analyst from TechNavio’s Data Center team, in a statement. “The Global DCIMS market is witnessing many open source network infrastructure management tools being introduced in the market, which are mostly free.”
Further the increasing complexity of network infrastructure and limited R&D capabilities are preventing many vendors from providing a comprehensive network management solution to end-users, the analyst said. “The emerging trend of using virtual network operators for infrastructure services is reducing the market for traditional DCIMS vendors.”
The TechNavio report also found that there is increasing availability of open source infrastructure management software. However, the research finds limited R&D activities to develop comprehensive DCIM solution. Increasing capabilities and features are being incorporated into the software.
In a recent research, IDG Enterprise revealed that data center investments are an important focus for organizations, with 28 percent of overall IT budgets being spent in this area. According to IDG, this number is likely to remain consistent over the next two years; however, overall data center investments are even higher.
