Data Center Management Industry to Benefit from Wire-Free Power Monitoring Solution

Server Technology (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of power distribution unit and management solutions, and RF Code Inc., a provider of active IT asset management and environmental monitoring solutions, have introduced a rack level wire-free power monitoring solution designed for data center power management and energy optimization.
Officials with Server Technology said that this jointly-developed solution integrates the company’s Smart and Switched cabinet power distribution units (CDUs) with patented Per Inlet Power Sensing (PIPS), with or without Per Outlet Power Sensing (POPS) functionality, with RF Code’s active RFID hardware and management software.
Company officials said that this solution allows RF Code sensor tags to capture and then transmit power monitoring in-feed and device level data (with POPS) from the Server Technology CDUs, to the RF Code wire-free active reader infrastructure. Readers then send the information to RF Code’s Sensor Manager software, which manages the power monitoring information.
“Our data center customers are looking for solutions to manage power and environmentals more cost effectively. The combination of RF Code’s sensor tags with our CDUs gives them an easy, cost-effective way to get the data they need to make smart power-related decisions for their data center. Customers get exactly what they need without expensive Ethernet costs and they’ll love the simplicity of the solution,” said Brandon Ewing, president of Server Technology, in a statement.
Ewing said that they just plug a RF sensor tag (News - Alert) into a Server Technology CDU. There aren’t any costs for IP addresses, configuration or IP maintenance, he added.
“Monitoring and managing power usage has always been a data center best practice,” said Mitch Medford, CEO with RF Code.
“But the price tag and deployment issues associated with traditional wired approaches have put undue burden on data center budgets,” said Medford.
Medford said that working together, RF Code and Server Technology have broken through this price/deployment barrier. As a result, data centers everywhere can now widely deploy power usage monitoring without breaking the bank or the backs or data center personnel.
